The CMIC Group under CMIC HOLDINGS was Japan's first CRO, or contract research organization. It does not develop, manufacture, or sell its own drugs. Instead, pharmaceutical companies commission it to perform specialist functions across the new-drug process, from clinical trials and regulatory-document preparation to safety monitoring and post-marketing surveillance. Put simply, if drug development were a restaurant, CMIC would not be the owner, meaning the pharmaceutical company. It would be the specialist kitchen contractor hired to verify that the dish is safe and effective and help bring it to the table.
