National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations (JA Zen-Noh)
全国農業協同組合連合会
JA Zen-Noh, formally the National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations, is not an ordinary stock company. It is a federation jointly funded and governed by agricultural cooperatives and prefectural federations across Japan. In Japan’s agricultural economy, it plays a role resembling a combination of a general trading company, manufacturer, and distributor for agriculture, with operations spanning sales of agricultural and livestock products, procurement and supply of production materials, food processing and manufacturing, and some overseas businesses. However, its decision-making system, ownership structure, and organizational culture differ fundamentally from those of a stock company. This is the most important point for international students to understand before applying.
