Tanabe Pharma Corporation (formerly Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation)

Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma, renamed Tanabe Pharma Corporation effective December 1, 2025, is a major Japanese pharmaceutical company with more than 300 years of history. It focuses on new-drug R&D in areas such as neurology, immunology, and rare diseases while pursuing global expansion. The major change is that Mitsubishi Chemical Group sold the entire company to the U.S. private equity firm Bain Capital for approximately JPY 510 billion in 2025. It has therefore left the Mitsubishi group and is now an independently operated pharmaceutical company owned by Bain Capital. Students must understand that it is no longer a Mitsubishi group company.
