The Norinchukin Bank is the central financial institution for Japan's nationwide JA agricultural cooperatives, JF fisheries cooperatives, and JForest system. It manages enormous pools of funds collected from cooperatives across the country at scale in domestic and global financial markets, making it one of the world's leading institutional investors. Unlike a megabank, it is not a conventional bank focused on retail deposits and lending; it is a cooperative financial institution centered on investment management while also operating across food and agriculture, retail, and investment businesses.
