Proterial, formerly Hitachi Metals, is a high-performance metal materials company. Its products include specialty steel such as high-grade tool steel and cutlery steel, magnetic materials such as neodymium magnets, ceramics, wire and cable products, and automotive components. These high-performance materials support the automotive, electronics, and industrial sectors. In 2023, Hitachi Metals was renamed Proterial after being acquired by Bain and other Japanese and U.S. investment funds, separated from the Hitachi Group, and delisted. The company is now privately held under private-equity ownership and is in a period of transformation.
