Teijin is not simply an old textile company that makes fabric. It is a diversified materials and healthcare company whose two core domains are Materials, including high-performance fibers and resins, and Healthcare, including pharmaceuticals and home healthcare. It is unusual in placing both materials and pharmaceuticals within one company. Its para-aramid fiber (Twaron) and carbon fiber businesses hold leading global positions, with applications including tire reinforcement, automotive brake pads, heat-resistant filtration, and firefighter protective clothing. At the same time, it operates pharmaceutical and home healthcare businesses such as home oxygen therapy and CPAP for sleep apnea. Teijin began as a rayon manufacturer founded in 1918 and is a long-established company characterized by continual transformation.
