This subject tests not how much grammar you know but whether you can process academic Japanese under time pressure. The twelve chapters follow the syllabus's four sections: the reading chapters match the drills now open, while the listening-reading, listening, and writing chapters are marked as official scope with their banks still in preparation.

聴読解の形式
The booklet shows a figure or text while the audio explains it, so eyes and ears work together.
Understand the figure's structure before the audio starts.
Predict which comparison is likely to be asked.
While listening, note only what maps onto the figure.
The audio plays once and some items give the options only aloud, so reading the figure beforehand is your only preparation.
グラフの事前読み
The few seconds before the audio, used to check axes, units, and legend, are decisive in this section.
Read the names of both axes.
Match the legend to each line.
Anticipate the difference most likely to be asked.
With multiple lines, establish which is which in advance; there is no time once the audio begins.
音声と図の同期
The speaker walks through the figure in order, and following with a finger keeps you from losing the place.
Track the explained point with a finger or pen tip.
Mark the points the speaker emphasizes.
On losing track, switch immediately to the current position.
If you lose the place, do not backtrack — jump to where the speaker is now, because backtracking costs everything after.
数値の聞き取り
Percentages, multiples, and years carry the content, and Japanese number expressions must register instantly.
Write each number beside the figure as you hear it.
Record the qualifier alongside it.
Check it against the scale on the figure.
Qualifiers such as 約, およそ, 〜を超える, and 〜に達する change the judgment, so the digits alone are not enough.
選択肢の消去
Strike out clearly wrong options while the audio runs; deciding only after it ends is usually too late.
Skim the options before the audio.
Cross an option out the moment it is contradicted.
Choose from what remains.
When options are printed, crossing out the eliminated ones frees working memory for the audio.
メモの取り方
Notes exist to support judgment, not to transcribe; writing too much stops you hearing.
Record only the number, the direction, and the subject.
Use a fixed set of symbols instead of words.
Read the notes and answer immediately after the audio ends.
Arrows for change and symbols for comparison are far faster to write and easier to read back.
