KOSEN is not "Japanese high school plus junior college" — it is a legally distinct category of higher education, built around a 5-year integrated engineering program entered after lower-secondary school (graduates earn the 準学士 title). It suits students with a clear STEM direction who want to enter Japan's engineering training early: labs, practical work and a graduation project come in from an early stage, so pivoting away from engineering later is harder. For students from China the realistic entry is not re-starting from year 1 but high-year 編入 — at the national level the common route is the 第3学年編入学試験 (外国人対象), with some schools also offering 4th-year 編入. From here you can use KOSEN graduate standing to transfer (編入) into a university engineering faculty, advance to a 専攻科 and earn a 学士 via NIAD-QE, or — where your field matches the role — move into 技術・人文知識・国際業務 employment.

在日本官方表述里，高等専門学校（高専 / KOSEN）是面向中学校毕业者的「5 年一贯」工学教育：它强调一般科目与専門科目交叉配置（官方称「くさび型」）、重视实験・实習、培养实践性技术者——制度类别上既不是 高等学校，也不是 短期大学 或 専修学校専門課程。本科 5 年修了可称「準学士」，其上还可接「専攻科」2 年。MEXT 明确把高専的设立与大学一样纳入学校教育法规范、须经文科大臣认可。所以把高専理解成「日本的高中 + 大专」，会把制度类别、毕业称号、升学资格、编入资格全混为一谈——这一步只帮你理解 KOSEN 处在哪个阶段、它的工学早入口性质，不给「该不该读」的结论；学制结构、准学士授与、専攻科衔接逐项 [要確認]。

高専官方特征长期稳定指向同一件事——从较早阶段就把工学、实验、实践、毕业研究嵌入进来，所以它是「最偏理工早入口」，对理工方向明确、希望尽早进入日本工学训练体系的学生最契合；反过来，对方向模糊、只把留学当泛化出国选项的人并不合适，因为进高専后课程较早进入工学训练，后续再转非理工方向的弹性通常不如普通高中—大学链条。另外对留学生，更典型的不是从一年级入学，而是走「高年级编入」（具体进路差异见下一区块）。
