Language school is a transition, not a destination — the one sentence this route most needs thought through first. Its purpose is to serve the goal after it: further study (undergraduate / graduate / vocational school) or employment. So 'why Japan' should be reasoned through 'where to after language school' — the motivation is not 'go study Japanese in Japan' but 'go pursue that final goal in Japan, with language school as the first leg toward it'. Get this backwards and a whole year is the easiest thing to waste.
Rewrite the motivation as 'go to Japan for that final goal — language school is the first leg toward it', not 'go study Japanese and figure it out there'. In the visa system it is only a stretch of Japanese coursework on 'Student' residence status; the real goal (entering a faculty / graduate school / vocational school, or employment) comes after it.
